As most of you know, we rescued Gretel in November of 2010. We can’t believe how lucky we were to find her at a rescue. She has grown in confidence since we brought her into our home and she has grown to be quite the little clown. She will always lean towards the shy side but we are proud of what she has become.
She had quite the terrible start to live so we are glad she found us and gave us the chance to nurture her and teach her that life can be consistent, fun and kind. For those of you not familiar with her story, you might want to read these posts from our archive:
Look at what a happy little weiner she is now

It’s just so nice that Gretel is coming along so nicely with you. Our little girl was from a breeder but her temperament was not dachshundy. She was terribly shy unlike all her brothers, half siblings and cousins. We got her at 12 weeks and she just shook. I tried talking my son out of her for one of the other puppies but he was determined to have a black and tan girl and she was the only one out of the 7 or so puppies. As is we did what you have with Gretel. Misty is five now and loves people and most other dogs. She doesn’t get along with border collies as they insist on trying to ‘herd’ her and she whimpers and sits her butt right by mom’s feet but is game for almost anyone else.
Glad you gave her the opportunity to grow into a good doggie self. Gretel still sometimes hovers around my feet when she gets anxious. It happens less and less nowdays though.
It’s hard to remember that Gretel was a rescue. She is just so well-behaved and well-adjusted now. Sometimes I wish I had a big farm to rescue every dog that needed it.

From all your fun stories about her, I had no idea Gretal came from a less-than-stellar background. It just shows what a lot of love and a little time can do. She is such a unique little girl and I am so glad you found her.

I am sure her life is totally different than she has before. I wish I knew where she was born but I guess that ads to the mystery that is Gretel
She is such a cutie – she’s lucky she found you

Thanks for the tag. Honestly, I can’t guarantee I will get to it. I have a lot of family stuff going on right now and I am barely keeping up with posts as it is.
She found an amazing home!

Every time I see Gretel I 1. admire her name and 2. admire her markings/coloring.

I love her coloring too. I can’t believe I found her at a rescue! I guess there was a lot of demand for her. That certainly doesn’t surprise me!
She’s adorable! I’m glad she found her way to you!

Yay Gretal! She is very loved, and the cutest little wiener around.

I don’t think it’s possible for her to be any cuter.
(Also, I agree – “Gretel, Hookers and Blow” is my new favorite phrase.)
