Idita-Walk: Team Dogventurers

PI GlobeI first heard of the Idita-Walk from Bunny at Tales and Tails. It was a perfect follow-up to the 30/30 challenge for us so we signed up this year.

We liked organizing the 30/30 Challenge so much that we thought it would be cool to band a group of us together for this challenge too (actually, it was Beth Gizmo at Terrier Torrent suggested we do it and I just accepted). As with the 30/30 challenge, it’s a great motivator to continue to stay active with your dog and improve your heath/fitness during the dreary winter months if you don’t feel like you are doing it alone.

This challenge is great too because you can go at your own pace. The goal is to walk 1049 minutes between February 1, 2013 and March 31, 2013. You can choose your own combination of dates and times to complete the 1049 minutes.

It’s only $10 to sign up for the walk. All proceeds go to Camp Bronson maintenance, scholarships, and Nome youth-related programs in Alaska and all paid registrants receive a collectible Idita-Walk 2013 lapel pin.

Idita-Walk

I made up a team name for our “team”. I am calling us the Dogventurers.

If you are joining our team, I think it would be fun to check in with each other from time to time. I plan to write our own update at the end of the month – February 28th and March 31st – and post it here. There are two ways you can let your other teammates know how the walk is going for you.

For non-bloggers

  1. Leave a comment below letting us know you will be signing up for the walk and joining our team.
  2. Visit our blog on February 28th and March 31st and leave an update in our comment thread below the post.

For Bloggers

  1. Leave a comment below letting us know you will be signing up for the walk and joining our team. I know that these bloggers have already signed up for the walk: Gizmo and his Mom from Terrier Torrent, Bunny and her Mom from Tales and Tails, Loy and Y from Loy Turns 60, Emma and her Mom from MyGBGVLife. I am not guilting  you into joining our team but would love it if you would.
  2. Visit our blog on February 28th and March 31st and read our update. At the bottom of the post you will find a special linky where you can link up your own update post (from your blog).
  3. Place this badge on your sidebar (copy and paste the code)     <a href=”http://youdidwhatwithyourweiner.com/idita-walk-team-dogventurers/” target=”_blank”><img src=”http://i1280.photobucket.com/albums/a493/GizmoGeodog/TeamDogventurers_zps052e2a3e.jpg” border=”0″ alt=” TerrierTorrent”/></a>
  4. Optional: Create a ticker to track your progress and place it on your blog. I had ticker envy when I saw the one on Gizmo’s blog during the 30/30 challenge. Gizmo’s Mom was generous enough to share how she made it. If you want to create your own, follow the steps below.
  • Visit this link: http://www.tickerfactory.com/ezticker/ticker_designer.php?type=8
  • Choose your background and a dog icon
  • Set the units for minutes and enter 1049 minutes for your goal
  • Get the code and place the ticker on your sidebar or somewhere else on your blog (I know I can do it using a widget in WordPress)
  • Update your progress on the ticker by entering your pin, changing the number of minutes and clicking next. A new image/code will be generated that you can copy and paste to replace the other one with (I don’t think it automatically updates the ticker already on your blog).
Here is the cool little ticker we made

We look forward to walking with you!

  2. That ticker is adorable! I signed up for the Idita-Walk last year as well but kept forgetting to keep track of my times on the website. Hopefully this year I will be better organized. I would love to join the team! Maybe my solo walks with my dog won’t feel nearly as cold and lonely if I know around the world others I know are doing the same.

    Go Team Dogventurers!

  3. Is a great idea! Mama says she would like to does it, except if she does it with me, there will be no fitnesses happening. On account of how I ambles to and from on my walkies, stopping to pee every 5 foots, traveling the speed of fast-paced snail. But I made Daddy promise to take me to the farm more often for excercises, and Mama will do walkings by her own self.

    love,

  5. Jess, you already know I’m in, er should I say Gizmo is in…He’s registered as #64 on the Doggie Roster…I’ve already written the Idita-Walk sponsors to see if I can add the Dogventurers team name to our registration…Thanks for taking my not-so-subtle hint and running with it…My self-hosting chaos made it hard for me to take on another project, so you were great to do it for us all…This is gonna be great fun! I even have an idea for a neat team blog badge and if I can get it working I’ll share it with everyone

Great. I had done the same so the team name is on my registration too. I doubt the walk directors will notice but we will know :) I registered myself – I could only enter one name and didn’t want to be unfair to either Chester or Gretel :)

  6. Hey! We just added the team name to our registration. We have a post scheduled to go out on Friday about this, thanks for the ticker link, we did not have that until now. It will be fun! I am dog 118. See you on the trail ;)

Hi Wyatt. That would be greatly appreciated if you could spread the word about our team! We look forward to walking with you.

  9. We’re in! We have already logged a few hours this month but will start from scratch since mom didn’t time our walks (too could for the iPhone right now). Mom has been getting lazy, she says its me, because of the weather, so I have been missing a few walks. Time for some incentive!

  13. We will have to think about that one, we might be able to do it. Although over 1600 km is very daunting in the winter. Hmmmmm.

    Best of luck!

  14. Awesome! Skippy is signed up and ready to go. From the online roster there are about 1,000 dogs/people already signed up. That’s great.

Hey bloggers – I updated the post to include the code for the badge that Gizmo’s Mom so graciously made for us

  17. MOM and already signed up to do the walk back at the beginning of January. So how do we say now that we are or want to be on your team?
    Blessings,

Sorry it took me so long to respond. Your comment got caught in my spam box for some reason.

You can edit the “associated” on your Idita-Walk profile. There is nothing official through them. As far as connecting with other bloggers on the team, put the badge on your site (recently added to the post) and link up your update post at the end of the month (you can find the linky for the hop on our blog in our own review post)

  18. I would love to do this, and to join your team! I know I’m a little behind signing up….but will get it all done by the weekend. The 30/30 was just a little more than I knew I would accomplish, but the flexibility of this sounds more do-able for me and my dogs. I love the ticker too, so will definitely also get that going, as well as adding the badge to my site. Thanks!

    See you on the trail!
