Let me start by saying that my first choice is always to buy food, treats and other stuff for Chester and Gretel from local, independent pet stores. I believe in putting my money back into the local economy and supporting the small guy.
That being said, between working a full time job, spending 20 hours a week on this blog, enjoying amazing outdoor adventures and still maintaining a life with friends and family, this girl gets short on time. Also, when I do have down time, sometimes I don’t want to spend it running around getting stuff for the dogs. I would rather hang out on the couch at home.
In times like those, I want to take some things off my to-do list. Getting dog food is one of those things for me.
We got approached by Mr. Chewy to try their on-line ordering system in exchange for a $50 credit. To tell you the truth, I pretty much forgot about it. That is until the holidays when I was desperate to squeeze everything in. I remembered when I saw a Mr Chewy ad and dug the offer back out of my inbox.
I was pleasantly surprised to see they carried our brand, Avoderm. They also stock other high-quality brands like Stella and Chewys, Orijen, Blue Buffalo, Honest Kitchen and Taste of the Wild. They carry over 70 brands so they probably have yours.
They also carry our favorite go-to treat, Zuke’s Power Bones, and Frontline Flea and Tick treatment. Their website says that prescription pet food is available too. You won’t be able to order any toys or other pet supplies here though because they don’t carry any.
I am environmentally conscious and try to conserve where I can so I was a bit disappointed that they shipped our order in a box that was about twice as big as it should be. At least the packing and cardboard box can be recycled.
Their mission is to “ deliver pet happiness by conveniently shipping 70+ brands of pet food and stuff (for free!) while ensuring at-risk animals’ lives are improved across the planet: Their website says, “Unlike the big, corporate, profit-driven pet retailers, MrChewy.com is driven by pet happiness not the bottom line.”
To tell you the truth, I feel like every company is claiming to help animals these days. My feeling is that it has become like Greenwashing so I am a bit skeptical.
Their FAQ page says this though:
“Q: Do you work with shelters and other pet-related organizations?
A: Yes, of course! We have programs for non-profit organization and shelters that help support animal welfare. Give us a call if you’d like to discuss how we could help your organization.”
The fact that they are willing to be so open about what they are doing makes them way more believable for me. Even though I ordered online, I still feel that I am doing something good with my dollars.
Their order process was simple and I like that they offer free shipping on any order over $49 within the continental US (and $4.95 Flat Rate Shipping for orders less than $49). It doesn’t take much to get there. If you buy a bag of dog food you can add on a bag or two of treats if you need to raise your total.
You can also feel safe trying a new brand of pet food or new treats. Mr. Chewy’s return policy is if you’re not 100% totally, completely, and unconditionally satisfied for any reason whatsoever, return it! They even pay for the return shipping.
Mr Chewy makes a great alternative for those times when you need dog food but don’t have time to get to the store.

I’ve been getting my dog food delivery from Smiley Dog, a local company in Shoreline. They have every brand of food that I love, and are willing to special order anything you can think of. I love the customer service; there is no delivery charge and the owner and staff are so friendly and helpful. Maybe I’ll write a blog post about it if you don’t me copying your idea

Write a review on it if you want. You’re not stealing my idea
I think Zak and Zoe on Phinney Ridge delivers to your house too.
I prefer too busy over too lazy. It’s nice to have things delivered.

I have no problem admitting that sometimes I am just lazy
I’d like to try them out!
Very nice and honest review. I also don’t like it when items are shipped out in huge boxes! We have a blog review scheduled for them soon.

I just thought it a little weird. This huge box showed up on my porch and I was like “what in the heck is THAT?” I don’t remember ordering anything huge. Ha, ha.
Great review guys,
I’d sure be helping you to recycle that box!! I love playing with cardboard
Have fun,
Your pal Snoopy

That was a great review! Very honest! We couldn’t actually try them out since we’re in Canada.

Thanks! I always try to honest but fair and objective in my reviews. If I totally dislike something I will say it but if I think it might work better for someone in a different situation I will say that too.
Ah, that totally makes sense about the Cnada thing! I got the offer to try them and I saw a lot of people giving the same offer away. I was wondering why the differnece. Those must be the folks from Canada.
What a fun treat for Chester and Gretel.
I’ve seen lots of different companies who do online dog food delivery. Now I just need someone willing to come over and cut up my raw meat for me.
You need you personal chef
Great review! That’s what I didn’t like about Mr. Chewy too, the box was big for what I got!

Funny that you noticed that too. I thought it was just my anal-retentive environmentalist self
Mr. Chewy has certainly made the rounds. Seems most were happy with the service.

Yes, he sure did. We got contacted by them and we saw them at least 5 other places before I could get our review out. It does certainly look good that several people were happy with them.
