My Dogs ARE My Kids

Chester SubaruI don’t have kids so I focus all of my doting on Chester and Gretel. I don’t go as far as putting baby people clothes on them but I do base a lot of my decisions around them. Sometimes I wish they could talk so I would know what they are thinking though.

Often, my vacation choices are based on “places we can go with the dogs”. If they could talk, they could tell me where THEY think dogs would have the best time.

I take them with me in the car most of the time. I like having the company and I like to believe they like the mental stimulation of being out in the world. I wish they could tell me how I could get them to stop barking non-stop while I go into the store though.

I take Chester and Gretel into consideration when I go to buy a new car. I need durable seats and enough cargo room to carry all of the extra hiking or camping stuff I need for them. I wish they could tell me what features would make being in the car an even better experience for them. I want my babies to be comfortable :)

Sometimes I wish they could drive too. We go on a lot of long road trips and it would be nice if we could switch off. I bet if they could drive though, we would be doing a lot of this

It is probably better that I stick with the driving :) Just in case though, I can make them their own drivers license using the new Subaru Facebook app (which I will share more details about soon).

Your description of the place of your dogs in your life sounds awfully familiar. Gotta go get one of those drivers licenses.

I will have to watch this with sound. It looks super cute.
I agree with you about dogs are my kids. A lot of my decisions are based on can I take the girls. That includes hiking, biking, and camping.
When we were looking a possible new vehicle, it had to fit the dog crate along with all the extras we pack.
I understand. I also don’t know how to stop them barking.

  3. We have made a lot of decisions around our dogs. Our house, our yard, our car. We aren’t going on vacation together so they don’t need to be boarded . . . maybe kids would have been easier.

  4. Gizmo got his driver’s license today :) Clever idea for a promo

  5. Oh gosh, well, while we do go abroad on holiday without the dogs – they go back to their trainer where they are pampered in her house – I do buy my cars with them very much in mind. My little Toyota Yaris is so perfect for greyhounds that I can see me trading it for a new one any time soon, since they no longer make this model.

It has a huge cargo space at the back with a height of 51″ and a floor that has no foot traps. Better yet, it is only about 15″ off the ground at the rear, and the door opens sideways instead of upwards, which is SO much safer.

Oh, and I’ve taken out the rear seats (well, they’re folded down under the floor, but without removing the dog guard they can’t be brought out) so tough luck to any humans who want a lift!

  6. I plan a lot around my dogs. Co-workers don’t understand why I have to go stratight home after work to let the dogs out! I also plan vacations around them (they do board and it is expensive plus I don’t want to be away from them too long). They changed my life, for the better! I also bought a car with them in mind, and we love to travel together. Blossom also barks when we go into a store, but they are barks of joy because she loves the store!

  9. Yup. My dogs are family, they go with me, if there’s a place where the dogs aren’t welcomed, you’re not going to be seeing me there. What can I say? It’s lovely to see Subaru is cognizant our dogs are family!

  10. Just like us, mom has no mini-humans so we are “her girls” and she plans a lot of her life around us…and she likes it that way. We go lots of places in the car too, so we always have a dog friendly car…VW is our choice but we love Subaru’s ads!

  11. My dogs are my kids too. Even though I have kids, they are all grown up. Most of my decisions revolve around them as well. I wish the Subaru salesman had had time to schedule a test drive for me, I ended up at Hyundai across the street and I hate the damn thing! LOL

  12. I sure can relate. I love going camping with our doggies. I think we took 5 with us once! The quality of life for our dogs and cats is very important to us! (LOL, the cats are new since the camping trip… don’t know if they would have enjoyed it much!)

  13. My dogs are my kids, too, of course. I laughed when you said you don’t dress them up in people clothes. Doggie clothes are okay, though? :) (Like I’m one to talk…lol)
