30/30 Challenge Update Weeks 2 & 3

Rufus and Porter walk

Well...I feel like we launched this challenge and then disappeared from the blogsphere. I intended to post an update every week  but I skipped over week 2. This isn't new news to me but it has definitely been brought to light again here - when you are super busy and make a new commitment, sometimes another thing on your to-do list has got to go. Your priorities have to shift sometimes even … [Read more...]

30/30 Challenge Week 1: Dogs Don’t Make Excuses

Well, it hasn't quite been a week since the challenge started. I was excited to start our regular walking routine (well...kind of....it's more like "committed") so we actually started the challenge a day early with a 30-minute walk on New Years Eve. When we got back from our walk, Chester and Gretel were zooming around like crazy! I am sure they can handle more than a 30-miute walk a day … [Read more...]

How Many Calories Do You Burn Walking Your Dog?

iStock_Dog Walkera_XSmall

We are always talking about the benefits of exercising with your dog. We love to hike, and even occasionally run, with our dogs (yes, believe it or not, Dachshunds are good runners – why do you think there are so many weiner races out there?) but walking is the easiest, bet way for you and your pooch to get exercise together. We think that any basic exercise plan has to start with walking. If … [Read more...]

The Myth of the Biodegradable Poop Bag – Part 2

Where did I leave off? Oh yes. In my last post, The Myth of the Biodegradable Poop Bag – Part 1, you just threw the poop bag in the trash. Here is where I get all “science-y” on you. In the old landfill days, people dumped stuff in a pit in the ground. Much of the stuff decayed, releasing methane and other gasses into the atmosphere. When rain passed through the decaying matter produced … [Read more...]

The Myth of the Biodegradable Poop Bag – Part 1

We love to get out in nature so we are all for bettering the environment. As written in my previous post, Does a Dachshund Poo In the Woods?, I am a water quality specialist by trade and very passionate about the issue of dog poop. One hot button issue for me is the biodegradable poop bag. I read a lot of articles touting their praises but I want to scream because there is so much … [Read more...]

Weiner Dog Walk – May 14, 2011

These things keep getting better and better and more and more fun to organize. We had about 30 people show up again for our Greenlake weiner dog walk on Saturday. Besides being our regular monthly walk, this walk also served as the first “hike” in the Couch to Peak™ series. The weather was beautiful and everyone was in a friendly, happy mood as usual. Spring seems to finally be upon us so … [Read more...]

Couch to Peak™ Training Program Launch

Summer is just around the corner which means the days are longer and the sun is out more. Most of us have spent the winter hibernating inside or only getting outside to move our body once every few weeks. Now is the perfect time of year to start a new exercise routine or just simply vow to get out more with your dog. Walking is the simplest form of exercise and often the one that you are more … [Read more...]

Adventureweiner Club Success

Tuesday marked the first official meetup of the Adventureweiner Club of Seattle. The evening walk around Greenlake went great. I just love getting other weiner dog owners together to socialize and let our dogs play together. Having great spring weather helps too. This group was smaller than the other walks I have organized. I do hope that our group will continue to grow but it was refreshing to … [Read more...]

Some of you may have heard about our exciting news over the weekend. For those of you who haven’t, this weekend was the first time our blog has gotten media coverage! I know it may be small beans compared to some blogs but we were pretty excited. I had kept it pretty hush-hush until I actually saw it with my own eyes. Last month at our Best Greenlake Weiner Walk Yet I stood up at the … [Read more...]
