Well, the 30/30 challenge is over. I shamefully admit that we didn’t walk every day. I can say that there were several days where I REALLY didn’t feel like walking but I put on my stiff uppper lip and went out anyway because I had made a commitment.
I did learn a few new things during the challenge.
I found it really fun (and simple) to track our route using MapMyDogWalk by Subaru. I didn’t do anything with the information when I got home but I looked forward to seeing the completed map on my phone once we got back home. It helped to make walking fun.
I learned that walking every day is not realistic for us….at least in winter.
I know that some of the challenge participants braved rain, sleet, snow and darkness. We think you are awesome. There we some days in Seattle that were really rainy AND cold. That is not a combination that Chester and Gretel will walk very far in. I don’t like it much either and didn’t want to fight them on those days.
We still walked more often than we had in previous months. I still want to work to incorporate more consistent activity into our routine. I just think that walking fewer times a week. and taking advantage of any good weather by walking farther on those days, is the way to go for us.
That means that our next challenge will be perfect for us: The IditaWalk! It’s an event to promote physical fitness in the spirit of the Iditarod Sled Dog Race. The goal is to walk 1049 during the 59 day but it is up to you which days you walk and how long you walk on each day. We will update you periodically on our progress.
Thanks again to everyone who participated in the 30/30 challenge with us and let us know how it went for you and what you learned along the way.
