Dogs are a member of the family. We love them, take care of them and worry about their health. While our dogs are young, we don’t worry as much. They are lively, full of energy and growing every day. But, as our dogs grow older, it is more important to monitor their health. Weight gain becomes something you need to follow closely as well as physical activity and the health of their joints.
Although you can’t always run to the vet, if there is a problem with your pup, there are many apps out on the market that can help you track the health of your pet. You can monitor their exercise, dietary needs and weight, and you can even get pet first aid kits all through apps. Here are just a few to consider:
Note: Unless specified, these apps are available for both iOS and Android operating systems (even though I only linked to one version of the apps here).
You can’t always be at home with Fido, but there are apps to help you monitor where your dog is when you are away. Whistle (used to be Tagg) is a dog and pet GPS tracker that you simply attach to your pet’s collar and monitor their movements. You can set limitations for how far your pet is allowed to wander, and receive alerts if your pooch leaves the yard. Another great feature of this app is the ability to track your pup’s daily exercise. This will help you plan walks, runs and time to play so your dog remains healthy and active.
2) Pet Phone
Pet Phone (iOS only) is the all encompassing app to monitor your pet’s health. Put veterinarian appointments in the schedule, and keep track of your dog’s medications, allergies and dietary needs. You can add all of your pets to the app, making it the perfect place to store your pets’ medical information and history. You can track their weight to ensure they are healthy and know whether or not you need to make dietary restrictions.
MapMyDogWalk monitors the health of both you and your dog. Created by the makers of MapMyWalk, this app allows you to monitor and track the routes you take on daily walks and runs. You can save your favorite paths and track the amount of calories you burn. This app gets you and your pup healthy at the same time.
4) Pet First Aid
There are thrills and spills with raising a dog, and accidents can happen. What happens if your pup gets a cut or gets an injury playing outside? Download Pet First Aid for the tips and information you need to help your pet in times of need. There are instructions on what to do if your pup is bleeding, cut, suffering from a sprain, needs CPR, needs bandaging and much more. This app has all the medical information you need to keep your pup healthy and safe.
Technology to Try
To make sure all of these apps run smoothly and efficiently, make sure you have the right equipment. Consider investing in one of the latest smartphones on the market like the Samsung Galaxy S4 (affiliate link). On this device, you can download any and all apps you need quickly and have memory to spare. Having the right technology will keep you connected to the world around you, to the latest information and to the things that matter most.
NOTE: Did I say how much I love my Samsung Galaxy S4? This thing is great for surfing the internet and it takes amazing pictures. Honestly, most of the photos I take for this blog are taken with my cell phone camera. Read the awesome review of the Samsung Galaxy S4 camera from our friends over at the Tails from the Backroad blog.
We all want to keep our pets healthy and safe, and it can be as easy as downloading an app. By using any one of these apps from the time they are puppies, you can have peace of mind that your dogs will stay healthy and happy as they age. This way, they can remain the youthful pups you know and love.
