11 Dachshund Breeders in Washington (WA) State – Local Dachshund Lover Recommendations

If you are looking for a Dachshund breeder in WA state, you have come to the right place.

I’m a local Dachshund lover who runs a 2,000 member Dachshund club – the Adventurewiener Club – and many of our members have purchased Dachshund puppies from breeders in Washington State.

A few breeders are actually club members.

This means I have met some of the Dachshund breeders in the state myself and have listened to direct experiences of many people who have purchased a Dachshund puppy in Washington State.

Why I Made This List

Up until now, I have stayed away from publishing a list of breeders in the state.

Mostly for two reasons:

  1. I try to stay away from controversial topics on my blog.

Buying a Dachshund puppy vs rescuing a Dachshund is a very touchy subject.

Many people are of one mind of the other, but not both.

My personal belief, in a nutshell, is that either choice is ok and it is up to the person making that choice.

2. I don’t want to overwhelm the Dachshund breeders in Washington

I’ don’t mean to brag but a lot of people read my blog and trust my advice.

By listing the people who sell Dahchsund puppies in Washington, there is the potential for me to funnel a ton of requests to these breeders.

Post-pandemic, the demand for puppies has increased so they are probably already overwhelmed with requests. In many cases, their waiting lists are already a year long.

With that being said, I have found myself answering the question about Dachshund breeders near Seattle over, and over, and over, and over again.

That means I am spending a lot of the same time answering the same question over and over and I am already spreading the word about these breeders.

So here is the list of my recommendations for Dachshund breeders in Washington State.

Please Consider Rescue First

As I said, my personal belief is that the choice of rescue vs buying a Dahchsund is personal.

However, I do believe that it should be an educated choice.

The quick pros and cons of a rescue vs buying a puppy from a breeder are:

Pro rescue:

  • You don’t need to go through the crazy puppy stage
  • You have a pretty good idea of a Dachshund’s personality because it’s more extablished
  • The adoption fee is almost always less than the fee for a new puppy
  • You’re saving a Dachshund that doesn’t havea home to make a space for another one that needs help

Pro breeder:

  • You can have some guaruntee of the health through the family lineage of the puppy and health testing
  • You can mould, shape, and train your puppy from a very young age
  • While a good one will ask you questions about your living situation and lifestyle, the requirements aren’t as strict as it is for most rescues

My Dachshund Gretel is a recue and Summit was purchased from a breeder so no judgement here.

But if you want to consider a rescue, here are a few options in for Dachshund rescues in Washington State.

How Much Should You Expect to Pay for a Dachshund Puppy?

If you are buying a puppy from a quality breeder, expect to pay an average of $1,000 to $3,000 for a pet quality puppy.

I’ve never bought a show-quality Dahchsund but do have some past experience with breeders of show cats.

I would expect a show quality Dachshund, or even pet quality that comes from a show breeder, to cost more. My guess is those puppies will be $2,000 and up.

True show quality Dachshunds might cost as much as $10,000 and may come with a co-owner contract, meaning that you and the breeder both own the dog.

Avoiding A Dachshund Puppy Scam

I plan to write a longer article about this topic but, until I do, watch out for these puppy scam red flags:

  • A website with a lot of puppies availableIf you find a puppy online
  • A puppy that is ready to be picked up or shipped to you now
  • A Dachshund puppy that cost $650 or $750 (seemingly the most popular Dachshund puppy scam price).
  • A website with dozens of puppies that are all the same age (one litter is usually 5-6 puppies max)
  • A website full of flashy and popular colors
  • The person pressures you for the deposit or shipping fees

It’s always a good idea to do a Google reverse image search for the puppy you are interested in if you are not positive the breeder is trustworthy.

So many scammers use pictures of puppies from Instagram, or random places online, to try and get you to send them money.

You can be guarunteed that, although the health and quality of each Dachshund can vary, the breeders listed below are not scams.

Recommended Dachshund Breeders in Washington

Mine is not a list of all Dachshund breeders in Washington State.

I don’t like to badmouth breeders or people that I don’t have much expeirence with.

The ones on this list are breeders that I either know personally, have heard only good things about, or have heard very few bad things about.

I will add to this list as needed but it’s best to assume that if you don’t see a breeder on this list, they should be approached with caution.

You can always contact me to ask about a specific breeder if it is not on this list.

  1. Thank you for recognizing pure bred breeders and offering good insight into buying a puppy from one of them! Where you get your dachshund is a matter of personal opinion and buyers need to understand both options! An AKC breeder of merit and one registered with the USDA is something to consider when researching breeders.

    1. Yes, thanks for the mention of the AKC and USDA. Although I have seen many small-time breeders who raise high quality pups not listed on those sites, those sites are a great place to start a search. And breeders listed there won’t be scammers.

  2. Hi Jessica. I was wondering if you know of someone that does a visiting doxie program near Tacoma? My brother is in a long term acute care hospital there.

  3. Is this list still current and up to date? I am looking for a short haired dachshund for my grandfather. Him and his wife have had many throughout the years. His wife just passed and he needs a new companion. Their most recent dachshund passed (old age) a few years ago and he needs a new buddy.

    1. Yes, it is. These are still my recommendations. You can find pet quality Dachshunds from possibly questionable breeders (quality-wise and I have seen some people reporting scams) in this Facebook group if you are not willing to wait. I have been very unimpressed with the breeders that list there but it’s an option if you are unwilling or unable to wait. https://www.facebook.com/groups/2203425096608791

  4. Please add me to your blog postings! I am a prospective mini longhaired doxy owner, doing my due diligence and this info is incredibly valuable. Thank you!

  5. Hello,
Do you know if Hathor farm dachshunds is still breeding? We are looking for a wirehair breeder somewhere near seattle.
