Fall has landed and winter will be here before we know it. It’s time to start thinking about gloves.
I love to snuggle my hands in my favorite pair of gloves when I am out walking the dogs in the cold. I often use a fitness app, or an app that tracks my mileage and donates money to animal rescue, so I need to be able to use the touchscreen on my smartphone.
A lot of gloves on the market don’t work with touchscreens on mobile devices though.
There are two solutions (well, 3 but fingerless gloves miss the point for me): take your gloves off when using the app or get a pair of touchscreen gloves that allow you to operate the screen with them on. Besides it being annoying, I don’t like having to take my gloves off to use my phone. My fingers get cold easily and then take a long time to warm up when I put my gloves back on.
There are several touchscreen compatible gloves on the market but, coincidentally, they are usually not the kind of gloves I like to wear. It turns out that it is really easy to make your favorite gloves touchscreen compatible. This great little video from the Sierra Trading Post shows you how.
Here is one place you can buy conductive thread to make touchscreen gloves.

Wow, thanks for the link! That’s really nifty. Mom might have to do this with all her mittens- winter is coming soon here in Minne”snow”ta! 🙂

Very helpful. I use walking gloves that are like golf gloves – I can hold the leash inside so my hand is warm but my fingers are available when needed. I also like those stretchy gloves of which many are touchscreen compatible. Good video and link.

I have yet to find gloves that I love. Do you have a favorite that you can tell me where to find?

Where do I start? Ha, ha. I have several gloves that I like. Are you looking for bumming around walking the dogs gloves? Gloves that protect your hands in really cold conditions (like snow)? Functionable but fashionable gloves? Water/wind resistant gloves?
Jan K says
Yes. LOL! Seriously….mostly for walking the dogs/showshoeing, and playing fetch in cold conditions. Something that will keep my hands warm but I can still grip things with. I also need gloves for driving that are somewhat fashionable, and realize I may need two different pairs for all of these things! Thanks!

My favorite “cute” dog waking gloves are from Lululemon – The Brisk Run Glove – but they aren’t carrying them right now. They might be discontinued. My favorite fall/winter good-for-everything glove is the REI One glove: . Either of those work for when I am snowshoeing to keep the hands warm but not too hot. They aren’t good for real snow play though. If I am snowbarding where my hands are on the snow a lot, I wear my snowboarding gloves. They’re from Dakine and pretty old. I am due for some new ones. What I look for is a good fit and a long enough cuff (with a cinch cord) so snow doesn’t get in them. As long as the fit is good, about any “snowbaoard” glove will due for me.

Apparently that link to the REI One gloves is no good. Here is the current version:

Those look great, Jessica, thank you!

They never seem to work no matter what, but we are doing pretty good with the ones we bought at Target, Love Dolly

That’s cool! I’m always having to remove my gloves. I have some frost finger gloves that work okay for opening poop bags, but they don’t work on the cell phone. 🙂
