For most of us our day goes something like this: Get up, sit in traffic on the way work, sit staring at a computer for 8 hours, sit in traffic on your way home from work, flop on the couch after work and unwind by watching a couple of hours of TV or surfing the internet. You get up and repeat this at least five days a week.
Sometime during the work day you think about your doggie. You think about how great it would be your dog. While your human has to go to work and make money so you can eat it, have stuff to play with or have stuff to chew all you have to do is lay around the house all day and look cute when your people get home. Yes, how great your dog’s life would be!
The truth is that your dog might as well have your desk job. He is at home bored and wishing he was doing something else.
He feels sluggish and icky from being so inactive. His middle is getting a little thick from laying around all day and it gets harder and harder to keep the weight off. He wants to get out and have fun but he feels trapped.
It’s just as important for dogs as it is for people to incorporate some kind of activity into their lives daily – to keep their bodies moving to keep healthy. They can’t walk themselves though. They depend on you to get them outside and let them burn of some calories and get their blood pumping.
We all have excuses for not getting that walk in like “I am too tired at the end of the day”, “I don’t have time”, “It’s cold out” or “It’s dark when I get home”. We need to overcome these excuses and get outside so we can help our dogs, and ourselves to live a long, happy life.
So what is your excuse?
