I visited the PetSafe headquarters in October and fell in love with the Drinkwell Ceramic Pagoda Fountain for Pets. It’s very Zen looking and constantly filters the water for your pet to keep it fresh.
The sound of the falling water reminded me of the relaxing fountain I had in my room back in college. I have been working on decluttering my house and classing it up a bit so I thought the red one would be a great addition to the pet feeding area in my kitchen.
When I was young my Mom taught me that you should change your pet’s water every day because they like to drink fresh water like us. The (replaceable) charcoal filter in the fountain, and the free falling streams adding oxygen to the water, keep it fresh all day – not just after I change the water. And, let’s be honest, I wasn’t remembering to change it every day anyway.
The per fountain was simple to put together. The directions were easy to follow…when Chester wasn’t standing on them :\
I just had to be sure to place it within a few feet of a power outlet so I could plug it in.
Chester and Gretel liked it. I knew Chester and Gretel drank a lot of water but I was surprised how often I had to add new water in the 70 oz fountain bowl. They either drink more out of the fountain or I just didn’t realize how many times I was filling their 40 oz water bowl before.
The only thing that surprised me a little about the fountain is how loud the gurgling water was. I don’t remember it being that loud when I saw it as the PetSafe Blogger Summit but the room it was in was big and carpeted. I have hardwood floors in my house so any sounds are not muffled. It didn’t take long for me to get used to it though.
And, alas, I found that it was not my never-cleaning-the-pet-bowl solution because I will have to occasionally clean or replace the charcoal filter and clean the ceramic bowl. It’s really simple to do though and I won’t have to do it near as often as with the standard water bowl.
The fountain comes in three colors: white, red and the new Himalayan blue.
