Another Famous Adventureweiner – Crusoe the Cebrity Dachshund

We go way back with Crusoe the Celebrity Dachshund.

I discovered him about a year after I started this blog about, at the time were two of the most famous Dachshunds on the internet – my Dachshunds Chester (now passed) and Gretel.

I was thrilled to find another Dachshunds who liked to get outdoor as much as we do.

Crusoe often hike and boat with his parents.

I featured his on his blog in hopes of helping him get his start (we all know where that went since he’s now the most famous Dachshund on the internet).

We got to meet him and his parents in person the last time they came to Seattle.

Let’s take a little trip down memory lane.

I rached out to Crusoe’s Dad – well, his agent really, – and asked for an interivew so I could feature Crusoe on our blog.

What GrabbedMy Attention About Crusoe the Celebrity Dachshund

Most of you have heard of Crusoe by the time of this update (December 13, 2022), but here is a little more aboout him and what made me take notice.

Crusoe lives in Ottawa, Ontario Canada.

He’s a local celebrity where we lives (or at least he thinks he is).

We have become fast bloggy friends with Crusoe and admire his drive for adventure.

He is one lucky dog because all he has to do for his blog is explore and look cute.

He has a manager that does his writing for him and a personal assistant who follows him around documenting his antics with photos.

Crusoe really caught our eye in his recent blog post, A Winter Wienerland, about his snowy adventure with his entourage.

I snowshoe with my miniature Dachshunds and I noticed that Crusoe’s snow experiences are very much in line with our own.

His experience emonstrate what most small dogs can expect when snowshoeing.

According to Crusoe,

“the good thing about being a 11 pound Dachshund in the winter is that can easily stay ‘afloat’ on the snow without falling through like people or bigger dogs.

Yet, there have been times where after a fresh snowfall, I just can’t make it through.

My [manager and personal assistant] lead the way [with their snowshoes]”.

My Inerview with Crusoe the Celebrity Dachshund’s Manager

Crusoe’s manager took some time out of his busy schedule in January 2012 to answer some questions for us about him.

I hope you enjoy getting to know him as much as we have.

Note: this interview was in 2012, before Crusoe’s videos went viral on the internet.

Tell me a little about Crusoe the Celebrity Dachshund

Crusoe is a young, strapping 2-year-old Dachshund born in Montreal, Quebec.

Crusoe hired us, his manager and personal assistant, early in his career when he was living near the ski mountain of Mont Tremblant, about an hour north of Montreal.

There, in the country, is where Crusoe nurtured his image as an outdoor explorer.

I am very nature-oriented myself, and took him on as many excursions as I could.

Being a celebrity is Crusoe’s full time job and it allows him a lot of flexibility. He loves to take walks throughout his day to clear his head.

This last September, when Crusoe’s career started to really take off, it was necessary for him (and me) to relocate to the big City of Ottawa.

He is still getting used to the concept of ‘neighbors’ and that he must now share his a territory with others.

He escapes to the country for adventures as often as he can.

How does Crusoe break the small dog stereotype?

His fans are always amazed by how in-shape Crusoe is, which is from all the outdoor exercise he gets (he got more when he lived Quebec though).

His doctors and physical trainers are always surprised by how strong he is.

One even commented he was the strongest wiener dog he had seen.

When big dogs chase him at the dog park, people are often impressed at how fast and agile he is.

What has been Crusoe’s favorite outdoor adventure?

There’s quite a few.

He loves his walks, which he calls ‘expeditions’.

There’s lots of hiking trails around his place in Quebec, so he goes hiking often.

He likes kayaking and boating a lot as well.

He lived on a lake in Quebec where he earned his ‘sea legs’.

One of his favorite kayaking trips was in Florida.

What is Crusoe’s next big planned adventure?

He has a big vacation planned in May but he hasn’t decided where he will go yet.

He is waiting for the very last minute to decide so the Paparazzi can’t follow him.

What at is Crusoe’s must-have piece of outdoor gear?

All of his snow adventures wouldn’t be possible without his jackets.

He is used to the cold, but at the same time does not enjoy it.

He is so used to wearing a jacket when it is cold out, he sometimes won’t go outside unless he has one on.

Does Crusoe the Celebrity Dachshund have a blog?

Absolutely! Crusoe started his blog last October so his fans could follow him on adventures.

Don’t tell Crusoe I said this but his blog is actually a comedic take on how he thinks he is more famous than he actually is (from his perspective).

He is a little naive and doesn’t realize that he is not widely known and loved yet.

To further promote his image, Crusoe also has a Facebook pageTwitter profile, and YouTube channel with all of his videos.

You can also find him on Instagram.

What is your favorite post of his?

My favorite is his blog post on “Attention-Getting Tactics“.

Are there any insider secrets you can share with us about Crusoe?

He was the last puppy of his litter to leave home, and was a little quiet from the start.

He’s a cute guy, but is a little shy. He takes some time to warm up to other people and dogs.

Crusoe the Celebrity Dachshund’s Adventure Book

In 2015, Crusoe published his own book! – Crusoe, the Celebrity Dachshund: Adventures of the Wiener Dog Extraordinaire (affiliate link).

The book is a collection of stories and funny photos, loosely following the chronological order of his life from puppyhood to stardom, and based on a theme of “seasons”; highlighting his adventures from all times of the year.

It features some classic stories that first appeared on his blog but also some fresh, never heard before stories.

I had a chance to check out his new book when his manager (Dad) sent me a copy.

It was fun seeing all of the exciting and exotic places Crusoe has ben.

My favorites were the skiing trip and his vacation in the Bahamas.

Chester and Gretel live vicariously through Crusoe

Crusoe went on a tour to share tour to share his book, meet fans, and personally pawtograph copies of his book.

Unfortunately, he was there before I was in New York City with my Dachshund Gretel so we didn’t catch up with him at that time.

Sadly, Crusoe didn’t visit Seattle on that book tour (he did for a later one though and we got to meet him).

Even though we didn’t get to meet Crusoe during his 2015 book tour and take him on adventure in Seattle, we did take him on adventure of sorts.

We took him to New York with us just to take a picture of him and Gretel with the Balto statue in Central Park (Balto is the famed sled dog who battled tundra conditions in Alaska to help save the state’s children).

Disclosure: Crusoe’s Dad, Ryan Beauchesne, sent us a free book to check out but I was not compensated for this article. However, this article does include a couple of affiliate links. That means that, for everyone that purchases Crusoe’s book, I get a few pennies to help support this blog.
