To-day is our Birth-day!
It seems like it was a long time ago that we were taking Gretel on her first hike and I said, “Ya know, I think I might start that blog now” yet it also feels like it was just yesterday. It started out as a way to share our adventures with friends and family. I had no idea that it would grow into what it has today.
We have grown a lot in this first year. We watched as our visitor count and comments steadily increase. We started a Facebook page, a YouTube Channel and Twitter account to offer more ways to connect with us.
Along the way, we realized we were outgrowing our current home. Our ideas and dreams expanded far beyond what a free WordPress blog was capable of. Last month, in preparation for our blog birthday, we decided to make the leap to a self-hosted platform so we could start morphing our blog into our vision.
You will see that we have expanded our niche over this last year. We hike a lot and were frustrated at the lack of resources and information out there aimed specifically at hiking with your SMALL dog. Hiking with a small dog DOES take some different considerations than a big dog. It is also hard to find great outdoor gear for your small dog.
Since we have years of experience hiking with ours, and with hiking in general, we thought we were the perfect people to be that resource. You will see things like a Snowshoeing 101 and Hiking 101 series in the future. We will also review and highlight outdoor gear and apparel that will fit and be useful for small dogs.
I have maintained this blog out of love over this last year – often spending 3 to 4 hours a day in addition to my real job. I will continue to maintain this blog out of love. However, to continue to grow our blog we need take on some sponsors.
Our goal is to partner with some product brands through direct marketing and affiliate links. We will only advertise products we stand behind and believe in but you will start to see some advertisements on our blog.
Besides advertising, we are looking at offering merchandise for sale. We will soon be offering Adventureweiner stickers. We are also thinking about offering things like YouDidWahtWithYourWeiner.com T-shirts, coffee-table photo books or maybe a 2013 calendar.
This next year WILL be marked by transition for us but our main focus will still be sharing the adventures and experiences that you have grown to love. Our hope is that seeing what our small dogs are capable of, and the great scenery we get to see, might inspire others to get out and get hiking with their small dogs.
Now you know what we are up to. It wouldn’t be a real birthday without a celebration though. We want to celebrate YOU!
We appreciate each and every person (and dog) who has taken the time to read our posts, leave comments and help share our blog with the world. We couldn’t do it without you!! Cheers to another great year!
Happy Tails and Trails!
Chester, Gretel and Jessica
