Last year I completed a-month Social Media Management Certificate at the University of Washington. As part of the course I had to create a Twitter account and become an active user. I had to create a personal profile to use for class even though I had a (neglected) one set up for this blog. It reminded me to start using the one I already had set up too though.
So fast forward about a year and a half and I am a Twitter fanatic. In that time I have tweeted over 11,000 times. I discovered Twitter parties and chats and participate in 5 – 10 a month. Twitter has become my favorite channel for connecting with my pet and outdoor blogger friends and fans of ours who love Twitter as much as I do.
My first Twitter chat love was #petchat (Mon 5 – 8 am PST). If you want to talk about anything and everything pet, EXCEPT hiking and being active with them, that is the place to be. I’ve participated in #HikerChat (Friday 9 – 10 am PST) and #STPLive (Thursday 3 – 4 pm PST), which are great for connecting with other outdoor enthusiasts, but they rarely talk about hiking with dogs (although I hosted one of the #STPLive chats recently and that is all we talked about).
Naturally, my love of Twitter chats and hiking with Chester and Gretel has left me wanting to host my own Twitter chat. I want to fill a space where I don’t see conversation happening – being active with your dog.
Please follow us on Twitter and join us (Chester and Gretel will be snuggling with me on the couch to offer their support) for the very first #AdventureDogChat on Wednesday, January 15th from 5 – 6 pm PST. The topic will be winter hiking with your dog.
If you are not on Twitter, here is how you can get started. If you are on Twitter but never joined a chat, please don’t feel intimidated. Everyone has to start somewhere and this will actually be one of the BEST chats fir first-timers because chat will go slower than most established chats out there. If you want to give it a try you will want to read How to Participate in a Tweet Chat. Feel free to ask a question in the comment section below before the chat and I will help you out too.
I am planning to make this at least a monthly chat. The topics will change but always center around being active with your dog. I hope to get some sponsors for future chats and be able to give away prizes.
Please bear with me these first few months with the chat while I learn. I will be moderating it myself until I can’t handle it alone anymore. Also, the date and time may change during the first few months while I work to find the best combo (but after that it will be set). I’ll definitely remind you about the next chat, let you know what the topic is, and let you know if the day and time has changed.
I can’t wait to chat with everyone!
