We are still learning about Gretel – her personality traits, likes, dislikes and her reactions to the world around her. We approach it with a sense of wonder and it is really a lot of fun.
A few weeks ago we decided to give the ol’ off-leash dog park a try. We were lucky on this spring day and the weather was awesome so we headed to our favorite with the dogs – The Edmonds off-leash dog park.
Now, Chester is a really laid back guy. When we go to the dog park with him he prefers pets from people to playing with other dogs. Today he found a little girl that just loved him.
Chester rarely runs around either – which disappoints us because part of the reason we take the dogs to the off-leash park is to play with other dogs and tire themselves out. That’s just Chester though.
Gretel on the other hand, is our super girl with endless energy. I am sure it has some do with the fact she is one and Chester is 8 but she is way more energetic at this age than Chester ever was. As soon as we took her off the leash she was off.
She was down the beach, and up again. Playing and barking with other dogs. It didn’t take long before she got the small-dog welcoming of lots of slime on her head.
Today we discovered that Gretel loves to chase a ball. Chester is more interested in chewing the ball to small pieces to chasing is so we didn’t think she would be either.
People there were throwing balls out into the water for their labs and such and she was super intrigued. Given her lack of fear of the water (link to North Beach Post) I actually thought she would dive in and try to swim after the ball.
She found a lady throwing a tennis ball on the beach and she would run behind the lady’s dog to try and get the ball first. The big dog was always faster to Gretel never got to the ball first. We are glad though because we are not sure if that lady’s dog would have given her a whole lot of what for if she had tried to steal his ball.
Anyway, we had a great time taking photos at the beach, the dogs had a great time getting to roam free and when we got home we bought Gretel her own ball.
