Today was our first Monday post. It was also our first time joining our pal Snoopy’s Monday Mischief Blog Hop.
Feeling inspired, I though I would experiment with….*gasp*…posting more than once in a day!
I wanted to give you a little sneak peek at what is to come. Nest week we will tell you all about your New Years Day sledding adventure. For now we will hold you over with pictures. The pictures in this post were taken on the first day of 2012.
We got an invitation today to guest post on the blog Coffee with a Canine. To be honest, I had never heard of this blog but I was flattered by the invitation. I immediately hopped on over to check them out and, to my surprise, a lot of our bloggy friends had posted there.
For example, I learned a lot more a bout our pal Snoopy’s Mom (the same Snoopy doing the blog hop above) and found our fellow Adventureweiners Swift and Kool from Life with Doxies there.
Swift and Kool’s Mom posted last October right after our group visit to FidoFest. She didn’t even say anything to me about it! (or perhaps I just have a really crappy memory). Besides learning her little guest post secret, I also learned that Kool’s proudest moment was when he won a kissing contest on Valentine’s Day.
Be looking for our guest post at Coffee with a Canine in the next week or so!
Our first giveaway of the year is coming this Friday. We are giving away a bag of Zuke’s Power Bones to TWO lucky winners. If you didn’t already know, we think Zuke’s Treats are the Shit! The best part about this contest is that if you are already our friend on Facebook, all you have to do it click the button on Friday to tell us so for an automatic entry. You can also get a second entry just by leaving a blog comment.
I think I also added another thing to build to Daddy’s to-do list tonight. We have been talking about ramps or stairs for Chester and Gretel so they don’t hurt themselves jumping off our bed. I tried to get Chester to use doggie stairs once with no success but they seemed to take to the ramp pretty easy when they stayed at their friend Sienna’s house over Christmas.
If we were going to go with a ramp, we couldn’t have it stick out from our bed too far because our bedroom is small. Daddy suggested a ramp that ran parallel with the end of the bed. This conversation literally happened a day or two ago. Tonight, what do I see? Lo-and-behold, our Doxie friend Crusoe’s Dad was building him the exact ramp we had imagined. Cool and creepy at the same time. Ha, ha.
You can check it out here. Maybe we can get the plans from Crusoe’s Daddy. Ha, ha.
So here we go boldly into 2012. I hope you come along with us by following our adventures. Remember, we love that you read our blog but we love it even more when you leave comments! We couldn’t do all of this without you.
Happy Tails and Trails!

Ohmigosh, can you please send us some of that snow? Dying to go snowshoeing and nary a flake in sight….

It has been a very dry winter here so far too. I think it is going around because I just got back from visiting my Fiance’s family in Illinois and there was no snow. We are starting to get some big storms here so it might be headed your way 🙂

Wow so much going on. I have a pal with a couple of dachshunds and one of them did hurt himself jumping off the bed. That ramp looks like an excellent idea!

So……I have a couple of questions about taking these little pups out in the snow.
In the pictures it looks like they have on their fleece coats, but is there something else underneath or just round the neck? Do you have “boots” of any sort that you have for them? If not…do you do anything with their pads when they come in from the snow?
Basically……tell me more about the fashionable outfitting for these adventures!
One or our pups loves to be outside, but isn’t yet sure about snow. The other tolerates outside, but will be DARNED if he is getting near the white stuff. I’m thinking if they are a little less cold and a little less wet….they might just get over it 🙂

Thanks for your questions!
No, they don’t have anything on under their fleece coats. They are super warm double fleece coats from The Cozy Hound though. The neck warmers I made myself. I started using the next warmers last year. It made a HUGE difference in keeping them warm and happier in the snow. To be honest, they like playing in the snow but they don’t LOVE being cold. I try to keep them as warm as possible but they do get chilly at times. They just like hiking more than they dislike being cold 🙂
We also don’t use boots. I tried them when Chester was puppy and he didn’t like them. They also didn’t fit his stubby legs right. I am considering trying again though. For now we use nothing in the summer. In the winter I use Musher’s Secret Salve or nothing (if I forget). The Musher’s secret was made for sled dog pads. The main things it is supposed to do is keep snow from sticking to the feet and provide a barrier when walking on salt. Really, if you walk a dog a lot their pads will get tough. That is most of the natural protection they will need. However, I recognize cold can be an issue so I watch C and G’s feet when we are out in the snow.
I am not sure I have any hints about getting yours to like the snow. Chester and Gretel just always have. You are right about the “get over it” attitude though. Maybe Chester and Gretel always liked it because we treated it as fun and them like they were just going to like it (I don’t mean forcing them when they are miserable but we didn’t act like it was a scary but deal). I don’t know if the Jedi mind trick will work for you though. My suggestion is to bundle them up real good and take them to the snow – starting with short trips where you leave before they get miserable and staying longer and longer each time.
