One of the reasons that they don’t wear collars is because dangly tags can get caught on stuff when we hike. They don’t wear any ID at home because it’s attached to their harness and I would not leave it on them 24/7. I could put the tags on a collar but I don’t like the constant jangling sound that the tags make.
The fact that they don’t have any ID on at home worries me. It’s very rare but there have been instances where Gretel Houdini-d herself outside of the fence. She is microchipped but not everyone checks for that. I would be horrified if she got lost and wasn’t wearing ID. I have decided that when Chester and Gretel are allowed to hang out in the yard unsupervised, they will wear collars.
I want a nice looking collar for Gretel so I have been checking around to see what is out there. I had decided on leather because of how soft it get’s when it is broken in. Yet another problem with collars for us is that the rough webbing ones rub off what little fur she has on her neck. It seems that a nice, soft leather collar wouldn’tt do that.
I was excited when Mimi Green contacted me and offered to send me one of their collars at no cost. I chose the Classic Personalized Leather Dog Collar in tan for Gretel. The buckle on the collar is engraved with the same information I would put on her dog tag. I like that no hanging tags equals no jingling and clanking.
The collar is very nice quality and I love the color on Gretel. It’s a little stiff right now but I am going to put leather conditioner on it to break it in and make it softer.
The Classic Personalized Leather Dog Collar is made of English bridle leather and is available in three colors – Black, Tan, and Dark Brown – and a your choice of either a nickel-plated or brass-plated buckle. The folks at Mimi Green said that the brass looks best on the dark brown and black leather and the silver looks good on all 3 colors.
More details about the collars are:
- Made of beveled and hand polished thick, full grain English bridle leather
- Easily adjusts to correct size by repositioning the 2-part post/screw set
- Engraving is guaranteed to never wear off!
- If your contact information changes, a replacement buckle is only $12 (the average cost for a new pet id tag)

- Handmade in the Mimi Green studios, New Mexico, USA
- Free conditioning service (shipping cost required) to extend the life of the leather collar
There are a lot of other great collars in the Mimi Green store. My favorite thing though, and the first product my Mimi Green I had seen, is the hand crochet collar flowers. I think Gretel would look pretty cute with one of them on her new collar.
