Well, this past week has not exactly been the kind of adventure we like around here. Last Friday Gretel and I headed over to Sequim, WA on the Olympic Peninsula to visit my Grandparents.
Gretel and I stay in my Grandparent’s guest house when we visit. I had a really good time with my Grandparents that weekend. Gretel and IĀ got in a short hike at the Dungeness Recreation Area.
Sadly, and unexpectedly, my Grandma had a heart attack Sunday night and passed away. She was really like my second Mom. THAT is the adventure part I was referring to that wasn’t much fun.
That is why our posts have been fewer and more sporadic lately. I would expect them to be for a little while to come too because I now have the responsibility of taking care of and moving my Grandpa (who has Alzheimers), cleaning and selling their house.
That is also how we got to the “week” part in the title. I have been here in Sequim for a week so far. S came to stay and help for this first week and brought Chester. All of us got away for a little time to ourselves and went for another hike at the Dungeness Recreation Area.
S and I took a different trail than Gretel and I did earlier in the week. This trail seemed to have a lot more smells so Gretel kept running out into the woods.
We saw a cool salamander too

I am so very sorry for your loss. We said good-bye to my grandmother last summer and the tears still spring to my eyes thinking of how very sad I am that she is gone.
How wonderful though, that you got to see her first and spend some time together. What a gift that fate gave you. Also so very lucky that you are there to take such good care of your grandfather. Our heart and thoughts are with you as you work through your grief.

Oh Jess, I’m so sorry for your loss. Grandmas are such special people and it sounds like your relationship was especially close. I still have a hole in my heart from my Grandma’s passing last winter. You’ve got a lot on your plate right now – I’ll keep you in my thoughts. Don’t forget to take care of yourself, too. Hugs for you.

This sounds like such a sad and stressful time in your life, I’m so sorry. Take extra time to snuggle those pups and let them take care of you.

Jess, sorry to hear about your Grandma. It looks like you are going to be busy taking care of stuff for your grandpa too. Keep up the walking with the adorable dogs. That will help your head and heart.

Very stressful time for you now so it is a good thing you have your four legged stress relievers with you. {{{{Big hugs}}}} With Alzheimer’s it is also a hard thing to find an appropriate place where you can still manage to visit often. Once they get to that certain point where they are disappearing in the middle of the night you need professionals in a safe building… We still miss grandpa Vic. But he was gone long before his physical body passed..

Jess, so sorry for your loss. I will keep you in my thoughts as you get your grandfather settled in to a new place, which hopefully will be a good one. I have a sister in PA who is a nurse. If you have questions about places you are looking at for him, don’t be afraid to ask.

Dear Jess and all, take time – know your grandma spent her last yours with those she loved; this is very, very tough – one of my grandmas died while visiting us years ago – I was a child but grief is grief. You are in our hearts and prayers; the hikes with your weiners sound soothing and relaxing in a difficult time. Love the photos of Gretel charging off into the woods.

I’m so sorry about your grandmother, I know this is a tough time. And it is hard to deal with cleaning, closing and selling a loved one’s home. You are in my prayers. (And, I love the jackets on the dogs! So cute!)

Thanks. I have been so busy taking care of my Grandparent’s affairs that it hasn’t quite sunk in yet. I have been able to take a little more time myself and for blogging this week so that makes me happy.

So sorry to hear about your grandma and grandpa….death puts an entirely different perspective on life and with your grandpa’s condition certainly adds a strain to your world. You seem to have a good view on things. It’s just a matter of pulling on that strength you have and moving forward. Please take care of yourselves and know we are thinking about you…even if we are cyber buddies..!!
