These things keep getting better and better and more and more fun to organize. We had about 30 people show up again for our Greenlake weiner dog walk on Saturday. Besides being our regular monthly walk, this walk also served as the first “hike” in the Couch to Peak™ series. The weather was beautiful and everyone was in a friendly, happy mood as usual. Spring seems to finally be upon us so everyone’s spirits are lifted.
I started the event out by making a few announcements. Besides the usual housekeeping stuff I had a few exciting items. First, our friends over at StuffOnMyWeiner.com are looking for Dachshund photos. They post daily photos of Weiner Dogs with “stuff” on them like hats, blankets, jackets, dresses, etc. To keep up the great work they rely on readers to submit photos of their dogs so I wanted to make sure everyone in the group knew about this great opportunity.
Second, I had some play date cards to hand out to people so they could help us promote our group. Since the last event I had ordered a set of mini-cards from Moo Cards (if you haven’t checked them out you should. They are great). I ended up handing out almost 100 cards between members and random weiner dog walkers we saw around the lake. Everyone loved the cards and we managed get 5 new group members that day because of them.
We also got some media coverage again which I am convinced is in part due to our play date cards. The turtles were out sunning themselves so several group members stopped to take a look. One of the members got talking with another lake patron who noticed the unusual amount of weiner dogs at the lake that day. At one point these members gave the woman or play date card. She read our group page and my blog and contacted me about doing a blog post on us in the neighborhood blog.
This was by far the funniest and most thorough coverage we have gotten yet. The article is really great. You can check it out here. With all this media coverage, our group is getting known in the community and Chester and Gretel (well, mostly Gretel because she is so dang cute and easier to get a photo of) becoming local celebrities. Ha, ha.
I have made some, what I hope to be, good friends through this group and got a lot of positive feedback from the group as a whole. Each group event gets better and better for me as I find what works and strike a better balance between organizer and group participant. I had loads of fun taking pictures again too.
Chester and Gretel absolutely love all their new doggie friends. They have so much fun every time we go out and this has been a great way to work on Gretel’s socialization. We can’t wait for the next one.

What a gorgeous group of doxies! Congrats on your continued success with the group. It’s such a great program you’ve started and I’m sure they will turn into lifelong friends. 🙂
P.S. Thanks for your comment on #5 in the list. “CAN” is the operative word, you are so right!

A practical “weiner dog parade”. One dachshund always gets one or two comments but we grab a lot of attention when there are 30 of us 🙂 Too bad you don’t live closer. We would love to have you.

Thanks for the mention here as well as at the meetup Jess!! We can never have too many photos of everyone’s furkids. 🙂

Sure thing. We are suckers for cute weiner dog photos (well, any dogs for that matter) and want to see your blog continue with plenty of fresh faces 🙂

That sure is an awesome play date!! 30 buddies all together looks like so much fun!! I can’t believe you can find so many Weiners, I wish there were that many Bearded Collies around here, but hey, so long as I have someone to play with I’m cool!!
By the way, those cards are great too, we checked out the website 🙂
