Helping align your dog’s behavior with your expectations to create a more enjoyable life together!

Imagine Having the Fun Dachshund Buddy You Imagined

When you decided to get a dog, you probably….

… imagined casually walking through a crowd with your Dachshund buddy by your side without having to worry that another dogs, a kid, or stranger wearing a hat might come out of nowhere are and cause your dog to go into a barking and lunging frenzy.

… imagined intently listening your friend during brunch, or a beer on a patio, with your Dachshund laying calmly at your feet and not being distracted with micromanaging your dog’s every reaction to dropped dishes, shrieking kids, or the dog at the next table.

… imagined walking down the sidewalk with your Dachshund and not going into a panic when you see an out-of-control dog approaching because you know your dog doesn’t have time for that foolery and will trot on by.

… imagined inviting a friend over and not feeling flustered and embarrassed because your Dachshund barked their head off and nipped at their hand.

… imagined being able to focus on a work project in your home office, or sitting on a phone meeting, without your Dachshund’s constant demand barking, whining and jumping to get your attention.

Well, all of this is possible, and it’s possible without kicking your Dachshund out of your bed, off the couch, or using harsh methods to punish them.

About Me

The whole picture includes the dog & human

I believe that a huge key to addressing a Dachshund’s “naughty” behavior is being able to effectively communicate with the dog as well as their humans. In addition to my 10 years of experience managing Dachshund behaviors and emotions in my own home, being a Licensed Family Dog Mediator, and being a certified Canine Enrichment Technician, I’m a certified personal coach (Certified Coaches Alliance #18521). That means I have the skills to explain things in a way that are easy to understand and I can tailor my recommendations to fit an owner’s goals and lifestyle.

What if There Was a FUN and EASY Way to Change Your Dachshund’s Behavior?

I’m not going to lie – changing your Dachshund’s behavior takes work. But so does working through the frustration with your dog, spending time worrying if they will embarrass you this time, and trying a bunch of training exercises that don’t get results, right?

What if I told you that you can get results simply by having more fun with your dog and understanding how their needs and yours can exist in harmony? Leveling-up the way you engage and live with your dog might be all that you need on the way to a fuller, more enjoyable life with your Dachshund.

Sometimes, it does take some training to have a well-behaved Dachshund, but I see it as more as a polish than the focus. It turns out that once you meet your dog’s needs and set them up for success, your dog usually requires much less training.

If and when we get to the training step, I will work with you to identify the gaps in your Dachshund’s life skills that will make communicating with and living with him or her feel so much easier. Together, we will find ways to seamlessly integrated these exercises into your existing routine so that it feels like you aren’t training.

If this style of “dog behavior tune-up” sounds right to you, book a session with me today.

I Get Your Dachshund, and I Get You

I grew up on an urban farm before it was cool where I developed a respect for animals and learned about behavior and training in an intuitive and natural way.

Later, I learned to appreciate the Dachshund’s special quirks, and Dachshund owners unique preferences, as a dog sitter and President of the largest Dachshund social club in Washington State.

This experience inspired me to dive deeper into the theory behind animal behavior and learn techniques for teaching dogs to life harmoniously with us.

I became a Licensed Family Dog Mediator to learn about how a dog’s natural instincts, prior learning (dogs are constantly learning whether we teach them or not, and environment influence their internal state and external behavior. I am awaiting my final test results for a professional Canine Enrichment Technician certification because I know that under-fulfillment is at the root of many dog behavior issues.

I want to help you understand the connection between what your Dachshund is feeling and what they are doing, and find a solution that works for both of you.

Issues I typically help people with include:

  • Puppy Head Start (early socialization and care)
  • Excessive barking
  • Leash pulling
  • Reactivity/fear aggression
  • Potty training
  • Resource guarding
  • Multi-dog household relationships

Start the next chapter in your relationship with your Dachshund now!

FAQs

I focus on positive, science-based training methods. I am a believer in the LIFE (Least Inhibitive, Functionally Effective) and LIMA (Least Invasive Minimally Aversive) dog training principles. In simple terms, these principles are guides for humane, fair, and effective training and behavior modification practices.

Unlike most trainers, “least invasive” to me means that I take a holistic approach and dig into things like your dog’s background, current environment, enrichment opportunities, health, and diet with you before I even start discussing a training and behavior modification plan. Believe it or not, sometimes solving a behavior issue resolves itself without any training at all! (by addressing the underlying issues).

I’m a Licenced Family Dog Mediator (FMD), a Certified Canine Enrichment Technician (awaiting final approval of grades), and member of the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants. I’ve been Dachshund sitter since 2014 and have experience with over 1,000 Dachshunds both in person and virtually.

In addition to my experience with animals, I’m also a Certified Life Coach (CLC), so I truly understand the human side of the equation too. I use compassion, empathy, and problem solving skills to find and teach the dog behavior solutions that fit in with your lifestyle as naturally as possible.

My continuing education includes:

My love problem solving, helping you and your dog communicate with each other better, and helping dogs achieve a higher level of training so they have access to a fuller life. I have experience with all of the common Dachshund behavior issues, and can work through almost all of the others with you (I will refer you to a trusted trainer if I don’t feel like I am the right person for your situation).

With that being said, I am especially passionate about raising a resilient dog that can handle any situation, the management and prevention of resource guarding, managing a household with intact male and female dogs, and maintaining peace and harmony in multi-dog households.
