About the Author

Hi, I’m Jessica. I’ve been studying the Dachshund breed since 2007, owned 3 of my own, and shared in the lives of thousands of others through their owner’s stories. When I’m not sharing what I know on this blog, you can find me hiking, camping, and traveling with my adventurous wiener dogs.

  1. I can totally understand feeling overwhelmed. Do what you have to do Jessica. There will be time to connect elsewhere. I am now following you on Instagram. 🙂

Sorry, I don’t have Vine, but love the video!

    1. I saw you and followed back. Thanks! I have seen a couple of Instagram videos. It looks like they don’t loop like they do on Vine (Vince creates a looping GIF file). I will eventually check it out myself.

  2. It was so nice meeting you at BarkWorld! I’m sorry I’m only just now visiting. Sounds like you have a lot on your plate! Figuring out what works best, at least for me, is always a work in progress, but it sounds like you have a great plan in place. I look forward to following along on your adventures via Instagram!

    1. It’s ok. I am a bout 3 weeks behind on my blog visits! As for my plan, I feel like I am barely keeping afloat right now.

It was great meeting you at BarkWorld too. Followed you back on Instagram 🙂

    2. Hmmmmm…..I tried twice to comment on your blog this morning but it wouldn’t let me 🙁 Anyway, your “dog days of summer” looks more like dog days of fall 🙂

  3. Hee- hee that’s cute. I have thought about trying the video part of instagram. Mostly, I never think about it though.

    1. I know you are a big Instagram fan. You are part of the “influence” that got me thinking about finally being active on there 🙂

    1. I’ll be biking to school but “every day” for me is only twice a week (I only have classes twice a week) and the ride is only about 25 minutes one way. I have committed to riding each day I have class rain, sleet or snow though so it’s going to be a challenge for me 🙂 Although I have gone for a mountain bike ride in all kinds of weather conditions, I am usually a fair-weather commuter.

        1. Yeah, I need to toughen up and get back into some kind of routine. My fun bike and the fact that I paid $140 for a bike locker on campus will help keep me motivated hopefully 🙂

    1. It’s pretty fun. It looks like the Instagram videos don’t loop (I think anyway) and I like that about Vine. It’s super easy too. Be sure to follow me if you get on and I will do the same.

  4. Jess you have so much going on I can only imagine how buried you’re feeling…still no smartphone here so instagram will wait and now i guess vine will too…maybe next spring when my contract is up i’ll join you all

    1. I remember when I switched to a smartphone. Or rather, I remember a time when I didn’t have one. All I do is surf the internet and text on mine so I don’t know what in the heck I did with that old clunker 🙂

  5. You’ve got a lot on your plate, and I just made the connection between you and Pet Talk Media! lol I missed your earlier post. I think it will take a little time, but you will find a happy balance in your life!

    1. I just met with one of my advisers yesterday and I feel a lot better about a “plan” already. She helped me to figure out where I am going. One of the super exciting things is that I am going to be able to use this blog for a lot of my class projects. Yay! 🙂

  6. I like to lick my bowl clean several times too! Mom knows what its like to be overwhelmed. Its so easy to want to be on everything because you think you need to or because you think everyone else is. She focuses on what she likes and what she thinks works instead of it all. Good luck! Love Dolly

    1. I have to be careful because I can get in this “joneses” trap. During times when I am not feeling confident in my direction or purpose I sometimes end up comparing myself a lot to others and feeling like I fall short. It’s a good reminder to focus on what is best for me and what I think rather than comparing myself to others. It’s so hard though when I feel like everyone is doing better than I am 🙂

      1. I do the exact same thing, Jessica. I always feel like I’m falling short, and I feel overwhelmed trying to “do it all”. So I think Dolly has the right idea to focus on what works for us. Having said that, I probably won’t be on Instagram or Vine for a while, but I’ll keep up with you on Twitter and through your weekly blog posts!

    1. You should do a vine video of Rocco flying 🙂 I don’t know how often I will be posting to Vine until I figure out how it best fits for us but I really like how easy it is.

  7. Saw you on IG I think it was yesterday? I’m jealous of everyone who has the IG video thing and Vine. My phone is apparently “too old” for that… And that bike looks practically identical to mine, except mine is dark purple. Is it a Scwhinn?

    1. Yeah, I have only been on Instagram a few days. Sounds like you need a phone upgrade 🙂

My bike is made by a company called Public Bikes. It’s the M8 model – stands for “mixte” with 8 gears.

  8. Ah! Life gets in the way eh? I’ve been mainly on Instagram and Twitter for the last while as I just don’t have the time these days to plan a post and actually put it up!

    1. I HAVE been missing your blog posts….but who am I kidding….I haven’t had time to check your blog in about a month 🙂 Glad I can connect with Eleanor’s sweet face on Instagram. I checked and I do already follow on Twitter. Hope you guys are doing good.

  9. Good luck with everything. Mom says that when things start to get overwhelming she piles even more on but then everything seems to get sorted out. Hopefully that will be the case for you.

  10. Gretel is a neatnick. She saves you the trouble of washing out her bowl. I carry my bowl from the kitchen into the living room, and then I try to eat it. Mom usually follows me and ruins all the fun.

    Love and licks,
    Cupcake

    1. Yes, the orange bike is mine. It’s quite a looker isn’t it? I haven’t ridden it in the pouring rain much yet so the worst has been a think film of road grime. The orange is so bright it still shows though and you can’t see the dirt until you get up close 🙂 I plan to ride it a lot more this winter though so I expect to have to do a real cleaning on it at some point. I have 4 bikes and I will say that cleaning them in the bain of my existence. All I wanna do is have some fun. Ha, ha.

  11. There is SO much and new stuff all the time, I don’t know how anyone keeps up with it.
I love what you’re doing though. I’ll follow anything you create because it always makes me smile. 🙂

    1. Awww…thanks Peggy. I started classes a couple of weeks ago and I am seriously feeling the crunch right now. I am taking a 2 second break to reply to your comment while I am writing a paper today that I should have spent at least 3 days on! At this point, I can’t even find time to post once a week on this blog. My first priority is to get back to that. I still hope to start my social media blog soon but who knows when that will actually happen.

I see you have been busy with your book promotion. I feel bad that I have not been able to participate in that. Perhaps I can join during the tail-end push?
